TSUNAMI MEDICAL RELIEF
The Lifeline Group has always wanted to give back something to the community, which has given him so much. Whenever there was a disaster in the society, this dedicated group will spring up to give a helping hand.
When the Mother Nature suddenly became aggressive towards the coastal areas and damaged the human lives, Lifeline group of experts reached the affected areas to give shoulder to the fellow beings. It had launched a massive relief programme for the tsunami victims, a step-by-step, well planned scientific approach to get them out of the grievance. The focus was mainly on the prevention of infectious diseases and epidemics that was threatening the already suffering Tamilnadu coastline.
On the December 30th, 31st and 1st January, Dr. J S Rajkumar led a 35-member team of doctors, nurses, paramedics and social workers to the Tsunami-hit villages of the Cuddalore District, where nearly 1,000 victims were attended to in four separate survivor camps. They were provided with medical relief on a war footing, concentrating on vaccination and preventive medicine. All those who attended the camp were vaccinated against Tetanus and Typhoid and were also given protection against Malaria. The preventive treatment included medication against the onset of infectious diseases like diarrhea and chest infection. Nearly Rs. 1.5 lakh worth of medicines were distributed.
The programmes were carried out in association with the Rotary club of Chennai Towers and ChennaiOnline Foundation, a charitable Trust of ChennaiOnline and Jain Trust. Food, clothing, mineral water and shelter were provided from the day one itself by the combined efforts of these organisations.
